Famous writers’ sleep habits vs. literary productivity, visualized – see the full graphic, a labor of love months in the making, here.
The other morning I woke up at 4:30am and started thinking about sleeping patterns, especially mine, because when I wake up that early it’s because I haven’t written sufficiently the night before. I know that I work best first thing in the morning, without the weights of the day’s ever growing to-do list to get to. To go home and write after a long day is not nearly as productive when I’m exhausted and just want to be lazy and sit down and read. Though if I write in reading daybook document on my computer, I find I can do that. So this poster is really interesting to me, and it seems like I sit between Kurt Vonnegut’s hours and Susan Sontag’s.
Likewise, I write early and read late.
